Foundations of Democracy

Is health care a right or privilege? Is this an example of equality of all people and general welfare?

Health care in most cases is a right, people get it with certain jobs they have and some people do not. I don't think it is an example of equality of all people because it varies and changes with every person, as well as the opinions. Health care is one of the main/top issues in the United States and is very difficult to argue because there are so many aspects of it.

the health care would be good because most people cant afford hospital bills so i thank yes it is a good thing that we should have it

I think that health care should be provided for everyone, because no one should have to go without their good health, but in today's economy health care has become a privilege. So in my opinion health care is an example of general welfare, the government may not pay for it but it is the government that provides the option for health care.

I believe that health care is a right. It is hard to decide who does and does not get health care. Of course this is a big topic of discussion. I think that if you are able to work, than you should get health care. If you are able to work, and don't than you should not get health care. I do think this is an example of general welfare, because the general welfare is to protect people, and that is what health care does too.

i think that health care is a right but some people can and do tack advantage of health care

I think health care is both a right and a privaledge. You have the right to health care if you want it you can get it or you can work for it. And the people who have don't work and have it its a privaledge.

I think health care is a right and it's also an example of equality of all people and general welfare. It's the basic thing that every person should get. Every person want to be healthy but some people can't pay their bills for their health care ,so government should provides this right for everyone.

It is a privilege. Ever since this world was created it has been "survival of the fittest", but now we're in a case where it is "protection for the weak." All people in the US are MADE equal, not created equal. If it is so hard for families to support their children with good health, they should of figured that out before they got knocked up...

I believe that health care should be provided for everyone. You shouldn't have to have a decent job to get help to pay for bills when you're ill. It doesn't seem fair that some people do not have health care because they can't afford it, or they are denied because they have a pre-existing condition. I do believe this is an example of equality of all people.

Health care is both a right and a privelage. because there are people that do need it, that didnt have a choice of being on the street or not being able to provide for a hospital bill. But there are some people that would abuse it, that dont need it. i am more to the side of that it is a right, because there is alot more people that probably need it. but a universal health care that would provide for absolutly everyone i think would be abused and shouldnt be a right for the higher up people, that can afford it.

I agree with nathan you don't get things handed to you you have to work for what you have

I think Health Care is a right, many jobs offer it to you and some jobs they don't. at some times it may change and sometimes it doesn't.

I agree with kelly and nathan, you don't get thing handed to you, you have to work for it

I believe Health Care is a right that should be given to all American citizens to promote the equality of all people.

I believe health care should be provided for all children. Yes, the parents screwed up and got knocked up, but isn't that cruel and unusual punishment to force a kid with pneumonia to get no treatment simply because mommy's fertile and daddy's a dead beat. When the child is dependent on their parents I think the government should help keep them healthy, so they can join society and be productive. I think until a certain age (say, 19 for those going straight to work, and 26ish for those in college) should get state paid health insurance.

i thank it should be if u dont have insurence that sould be able to get n the heath care

I think it should be a privillege but at the same time it could be a right, it just depends. The problem with only some people having health care is this, those who don't have health care and don't have the money to pay for the bills, most of those bills are payed by those who have health care by health care providers raising peoples premiums. I think it does fall under a general welfare if it is given to all and its structure is strong enough to support everybody having it.

Healthcare, like driving, is a privilege. The government doesn't need to provide healthcare. People just want them to.

I think health care can be both a right and a privilege. Everybody has a right to have health care, but for some people it can be a privilege to have it.

Christy Studer said...

I think that health care is a privilege not a right. People have to work for what they want it shouldn't just be handed to you.

Health Care for people under 18 and over 65 is a right. Other than that, in some cases you need to work and contribute to society; but in others you have cases where you can't work and contribute.

JONESY50 said...

Health Care in some instances is a right not a privilege, but in some cases health care is good for families that have caught a tough break or had bad luck and need it to get back on the right path. but seriously if you can afford Drugs and alchohol, or a pack of smokes, you can afford to take your child for a monthly check up.

I feel that health care shout be provided for everyone that is working or is truly not able to work.. For all these people who just don't want to or really could if they tried... I feel they really don't deserve it!!

Health care is a privilege. You should have to work to finance medical treatment that you want. Nothing is ever just given to you. Everyone has the right to pursue health care (via health insurance plans), but you don't have the right to health care. I don't believe its an example of equality of all people and general welfare because people with insurance or money to cover medical procedures are put to the "top" of the list. If we were all equal, no one would outreign anyone.

In my opinion health care is a privilege for everyone because if the government wanted to they can just take it away and i also think it is general welfare too because the government dosent pay for it but it still gives us that opportunity to have it.

asharch5 said...

I believe that everyone has the privelege to have healthcare. You should have to work to get it though. And no it is not an example of equality of all people because not everybody works which means not everybody should get healthcare.

Jade said...

I agree with Ashley and Kirsten. Everyone should have the privilege of health care but it shouldn't just be given to you. If you want it, you should earn it. Not every single person works so therefore not everyone should get health care. That is why it is not an example of equality of all people.

i think that kids should have healthcare because its not their fault that their parents cant afford it, and they shouldn't have to suffer, but adults should not have free health care

Robert Cowan said...

It is a privelage. U must work for it. U don't just get things for free. Everyone should be equal but u still need to work or it.

Health Care is a privilege, because it is paid by hard working people and some people don't want to pay.

George said...

I think it's a right because all the people needs it and how can you say "no" to a person who needs your help because he's ill or he's dying...i'm not very religious but don't the Bible say to help the next one???

nick thomas said...

I think health care is a privilege. People have to earn that privilege to have health care. Some who can afford think that well im young enough and healthy enough to not have to have it. That is there choice but if you want it you have to work for it.

Andrew Shores said...

I think health care is an example of both. The general population should have to work like everyone else for their healthcare, but there are people under different circumstances that can not afford health care. (Elderly, young people, people who've been recently laid off.)

The government should offer a cheapened health care system to those who absolutely can't afford it, while the people who can pay would be able to get more/better services and coverage.

brock said...

i agree with jade ashley and kirsten. its not a right its a privilage. i shouldnt have to work hard to pay for my bills plus someones elses bills.

Kayler said...

Health care is a privilege. I agree with Kirsten, it is not a right. We need to let the weak die off and start to form more perfect society. If they are incapable of providing themselves with health care, then they do not deserve it.

The Phantom said...

I like what kayler has to say but maybe not so harsh. We shouldnt have to pay for everybody's health care. But we got to fight for our right to PARTY!!!!

Health care is a privilege. The government doesn't have to give us equal heath care.
